Volunteering at the Mothers' Center

Being a Co-Chair, Core Committee Head or a Committee Member is a wonderful opportunity to not only give back to the center, but to use skills you have and haven't used since having children all while meeting new people on an adult level.

Here is a list of the Committee Heads for the 2006-2007 year and a brief description of each one: (The number of people who generally hold this position is in parenthesis. This can change if additional people want to hold this position)

Co-Chairs:
(2 people) Oversee the Mothers Center as the focal person for the Core Committee Heads; hold the Calendar of Scheduled Events and run General Membership Meetings.

Financial Core Committee Head: (2 positions)
Oversees the Finances of the Center to insure financial good standings and oversees the following committees.

² Treasurer/Payroll: (1 person) Maintains cash receipts and cash disbursements journals, pay bills, prepares annual center budget and committee budgets. Handles childcare payroll, pays quarterly unemployment and any taxes required by law for a not-for-profit organization.

² Fundraising: (2 or more) Oversees and plans fundraising activities for the year, such as Cow Harbor day, E. Northport Festival, Pasta Dinners, Military Bridge and others to insure income for the center.

² House Tour Co-Chairs: (2 persons) Oversees the Holiday House Tour, the center's biggest fundraiser.

Programming Core Committee Head: (2 positions)
Oversees the planning of discussion groups, childcare, playgroups, social worker and facilitators, along with the following committees.

² Programming: (2 or more persons) Plans all discussion, book, and mini groups along with getting guest lecturers based on Membership surveys; sets up Open House dates with church and informs all involved committees; coordinates with Childcare the number of workers needed for each group; completes group paperwork for facilitators and schedules programming meeting periodically for membership input.

² Playgroups: (1 person) Arranges playgroups for interested members at center; insures playgroup waivers are signed and childcare rooms are maintained.

Membership Core Committee Head: (2 positions)
Oversees the Publicity of the Center in the community and implements Open Houses when needed, along with overseeing the following committees:

² Membership: (2 people) Works to get new members; assists in organizing Open Houses; maintains membership database (MS Access program); distributes membership lists; submits birthdays and member updates to the newsletter; maintains active, alumni and non-member's information and has available to other committees for their use.

² Hospitality: (1 person) Arranges food and beverages for Open Houses and morning of the House Tour.

² Historian/Scrap booking: (1 person) Maintain the historical being of the Mothers' Center's activities and membership through the keeping of a photographic album.

² Big Sisters: (1) Matches new members with a big sister; plans Wine and Cheese parties after each cycle.

² Birthing and Healing: (1) Arranges meals for Center members after birth and family crisis; submits to newsletter announcements of births and gives information to Membership for input to database.

Social Core Committee Head: (2 positions)
Oversees the Social Activities Committees of the Center

² Social: (2 or more people) Organizes all social events for both adult and children; organizes a Halloween party and Family Picnic; submits events to the newsletter and the co-chairs for the calendar.


² Babysitting Co-op: (1 person) Oversee the running of the Co-op; have monthly meet-and-greet with the co-op members; distribute intake forms on members to all co-op members; sell co-op tickets.

Communication Core Committee Head: (2 positions)
Oversees the Newsletter, Website and the following committees:

² Phone/Email Chain: (1 person) Maintains phone/email chain list, communications information to the membership through phone/email committee head members.

² Newsletter Editors: (2 people) Creative Editor solicits & implements articles/ideas for the newsletter-creates the "feel" and also proofreads the newsletter. Production Editor desktop publishes and creates the look of the newsletter; delivers the newsletter to the Newsletter Distributor for printing and mailing.

 

² Newsletter Distributor:  (1 person) Responsible for the printing and mailing of newsletters to all members and advertisers.

² Advertising: (1 person) Obtains advertising for the newsletter; insures adequate income for advertising to cover costs of the newsletter, bills advertisers and give advertisers to newsletter editor for input into the newsletter.

² National Mother Center Liaison: (1 person) Coordinates efforts between our center and the National organization. Submits news to the newsletter and communicates information to the membership from the NAMC organization.

² Website Designer: (1 person) Maintains and updates Center information on the website. 

² Community Outreach: (1 or more persons) Attends community organization meetings such as Chamber of Commerce; informs membership of community resources available and submits newsworthy information to the newsletter; compiles community resources into book for members' use; assists with Annual Blood Drive.

 

Publicity Core Committee Head: (2 positions)

Oversees the correct handling of the publicity needs of the Center

 

² Newspaper Contacts:  (1 person) Lists all public events with the local newspapers within their community calendar available for non-profits.

 

² Local Signs and Banners:  (1 or more persons) Posts appropriate signs and banners for upcoming events.

 

² Flier/Brochure Distribution:  (1 or more persons) Distributes brand name fliers and brochures as advertisement for the Mothers' Center.
